Working vs Social NetWorking

As experts in getting work done, we (BlueJean Time humans) understand that there are fundamental differences in the concerns of a platform. With work, the emphasis is in enabling 2 or more humans to have a private space to brainstorm, make decisions, plan and execute plans. Privacy is the key and it's not just privacy of the individuals involved but very much about the privacy of the work being done. That's why in BlueJean Time, the emphasis is around creating private places and protecting info in the places vs person to person social interactions. As such, all information, whether documents/topics, or elections, or checklists, or files, or calendar events are created within the context of a Place (usually private places or the community which is the most public of places).

Privacy Obsession Points:

- Whether creating a place using Get a Room! or using Create Place from the place dropdown, by default the place created is private. The very existence of the place is known only to the creator and the invited members. The impact of this is that a novice user when getting a room or creating a place will create a private space for doing work without thinking.

- when a member joins the community, other members are not made aware, only the inviter (if done through email invitation) or the platform admin staff

- Emails never contain the content of an update or change to an artifact; only the name of the person making the update, the time made, the artifact and the place where the artifact resides

- Feeds also don't contain the content of updates... if a passerby sees a feed they will not be privvy to what is happening inside of a place/artifact unless it is open

- emails are never made available to other members, only access to another member is through their name showing up on artifacts and going to their profile page where one can only see the data desired to be displayed by member

- on member's profile page, viewer can only see activity updates that occur in places where the viewer is also a member plus the community and no more.

- when a member invites a person by email the platform does not give them an indication of whether the person is already a member or a non-member that will need to register. This makes it more difficult for a member to learn information about another person that the other person may not want divulged

- when a member invites another member by email, if the invitee changes the email used on the platform, the inviter does not know, they only know the email they knew of, not what the member chooses to use for notification purposes

- BlueJean Time has chosen to collect the minimum amount of information necessary for notifications and to determine that you are interacting with the correct person and that this is someone that you are interested in doing businesses or collaborating with. So, BlueJean Time don't collect info like date of birth, or address etc, only name, email, phone, bio and profile photo. By being minimalistic in what we collect the user has less risk of privacy invation

So what's the BlueJean Time Community?

As mentioned above, we have an obsession with privacy of the work the multiple members come together to get done. However, we recognize that members need to have a reason to come together... they need to know about each other... members need to be able to build a reputation AND there are many circumstances where the community as a whole can benefit from the wisdom of crowds.

So, the BlueJean Time Community provides a space to put ideas and information out for the masses (BlueJean Time members and non-members) to see and for members to participate in evolving. Relationships can be forged in the community and then collaborations can continue in private places/rooms as necessary. Members can advertise their business or even solicit input on product ideas which may result in Apps in the BlueJean Time App store...

As additional ways to protect privacy are discovered we will add these protections so that they are provided by default. The objective is to keep things simple and private so that members can focus on getting work done and not need to worry about configuring for privacy.
